decision making

The decision making process that was used in the classroom was somewhat chaotic. It showed that there are some who doesn't consider themselves team players, and there were others who has that take charge mentality. They was given a agenda and they took control of the situation, whether others wanted them to or not. Even though they took charge, they didn't have control over the group. People were talking over each other, and everyone wanting their opinion to be heard. Which made it hard for some to keep up with what was going on. The atmosphere was thick with tension, some of my classmates can be very rude. Not only during this exercise, but also when the professor is teaching the class. I was impressed that with all the overtalking and those not wanting to accomodate others we did get a nice package deal. As for me I sat back and watched how my classmates interacted with one another. It amazed me that we got anything at all. I believe the professor gave us a second chance to get the deal, I know for a fact that we had lost our opportunity.
As for me I normally deal with situations in one or two ways, I either go along with the majority if I feel that the majority is best for all involved, or I sit back and watch the chaos. In this case I sat back and watched as some my the classmates showed their true colors. I really didn't believe we were going to get anything the way the decision process was going.

To be honest with you, just like you I was quite surprised that we got a proposal across the table. When it came close to the end of the class, when we had one last chance to agree 100% on the last proposal and someone disagreed and I thought the deal was off. But to come into the next class and realize that we still have the curve and the 7 point extra credit, I was amazed. I thought it was nice enough that he curved the exam and to allow us to have the extra credit despite the chaos that went on, it was a cherry on top. I believe the Professor wanted all of us to take something positive out of this situation whether how you managed yourself or attempt to manage the class.

I agree! I was knid of esceptical about us making through the whole chaos. I though we were never going to get the 100% affirmatives and that we were going to end up with nothing when such a great opportunity was being offered. So, obviously, with all of the chaos we still managed to get through...I am just wondering HOW IN THE WORLD DID IT HAPPEN? Just like you said even though some people took the leadership role, as mediators, they didn't have the entire control of the room.

You are right it was very chaotic on Monday and there were some people who were team players and others who were selfish. I believe those who were selfish did very well on the exam and they did not want the professor to give out a 15 or 20 point extra credit to help out the majority of the class who did poorly on the exam. Just like you, I was very surprised that we got a deal done and I believe the only reason why the professor gave us a second chance was because that student who voted no in the last minute did not completely understand the proposed essay part of the next exam.

I agree completely with you. I sat back and watched everyone. I agreed with many things, but disagreed with even more. However, I felt that another screaming voice was the last thing we needed. I was also very happy Prof. K gave us a second chance to turn in our last proposal...event hough some of the loudest "leaders" had already stormed out of the room.

I thought that the class was chaotic as well. There were almost 60 students trying to come up with one decision. The ones who "took charge", I agree with you, did not have any control over the classroom. Although it was crazy, I think it was a great learning tool. Even though at some points I thought we weren't going to get the extra credit I thought it was worth it to put in my two cents because of my horrible test grade.
